The Adair County High School Class of 2017 officially moved
on to the next phase of their lives Friday night at the school’s
commencement ceremony.  In front of a standing-room-only
crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends, the
graduates were recognized for 13 years of hard work and
academic achievement.
Principal Troy Young was the first speaker of the night, and
congratulated the class on its many academic, athletic, and
extracurricular achievements over the years.  Young also
provided a few words of advice to the graduates.  “We do
live in the moment, but try to look ahead into the future,”
Young said.  “Make sure you always, always have more good
days than bad days.”
Isaac Carter, the next speaker, offered thanks on behalf of the
Class of 2017 to the many parents, teachers, administrators,
and school staff who worked their hardest to help the graduates
achieve their goals.  Carter also shared a few thoughts of his
own about his graduating class.  “We might be the most athletic
class to come through here,” Carter said.  “We might not be the
smartest class to come through here, but we are for sure the best
looking class to come through Adair County High School.
After Carter’s speech, Young returned to the microphone to
present the graduates as they walked across the stage to receive
their diplomas from Supt. Pam Stephens.
Other participants in the ceremony included the ACHS band,
ACHS choir, and ACHS Jr. Guard Honor Guard, who provided music
and presented colors, respectively.  Graduates Wes Stone, Chloe
Hixson, and Linsey Grant also spoke briefly. While no valedictorian
or salutatorian was named this year, the top two seniors in terms
of GPA, Chassidy Bryant and Cole Schmidt, were recognized.
